So far, so good for the TCU baseball team in the opening round of the College Station Regional in the NCAA baseball tournament. The Horned Frogs hold a 1-0 lead against Ole Miss through the first three innings. A win would give TCU a chance to play the winner of host Texas A&M and fourth-seed Dayton.
Designated hitten Kevin Cron grounded out in the first inning, but center fielder Kyle Von Tungeln scored on the play for the only run of the game so far.
Freshman pitcher Preston Morrison has given up three through three innings while striking out one batter in 11 batters faced.
The Aggies get started with their matchup against Dayton following the conclusion of the TCU-Ole Miss game, scheduled for 6:30 p.m.

Father & Son Kicked Off Flight Because 3-Year-Olds Don't Care About The Seatbelt Sign

sea-tailsx-inset-community.jpg (230×184)
Anyone who's ever been in the vicinity of a toddler knows how they don't always want to do what they're told. So it's not that surprising that a three-year-old didn't want to comply with instructions to buckle up on a recent flight. That act of childish defiance got him and his dad booted from an Alaska Airlines flight, claims the boy's father.
MyNorthwest.com says the man and his son were seated in coach while his wife and other son were up in first class on a flight out of Sea-Tac International Airport. The young boy got a bit squirmy before takeoff, and didn't want to stay seated with his seatbelt on.
"He was crying, being cranky," said the dad. "I started putting him in his seat. I put his seatbelt on. But he was being cranky, trying to be close to me, so he wasn't fully fastened yet."
The man claims he called his wife back to help him out, and they eventually got him quieted down with a pacifier and some water. But meanwhile, the plane had taxied back to the gate.
He says an Alaska Airlines rep asked them to get off the plane, but didn't explain why they were having him leave. The airline said it was a judgment call, and that the pilot preferred to deal with the issue on the ground than mid-flight.
The airline offered to rebook them on a later flight, but the father says he's never going to fly with Alaska Airlines again.

Shopper Sues Neiman Marcus For Refusing To Take Back Expensive Gifts From Her Cheating Husband

Not only did her husband allegedly cheat on her while she was bedridden for three years recovering from a traffic accident, but a Dallas woman is claiming he spent $1.4 million of her money buying gifts for her from Neiman Marcus, while carrying on an affair with the personal shopper who made a commission on those gifts.Still with us?
Good Morning America reports on Patricia's attempt to return all those expensive pajamas, furs, jewelry, crystal sculptures and other luxury goods to Neiman Marcus that she didn't even want. The department store is well-known for its generous return policy, but in this case, it refused to take back $1.4 million in merchandise, so Patricia is suing.
According to a lawsuit filed by Patricia against Neiman Marcus, her husband was carrying on a secret affair with Patricia's trusted personal shopper, who worked at the department store. The woman earned a large commission from the sales, made using Patricia's store account, claims Patricia's attorney.
In 2010, when Patricia attempted to return the piles of gifts, Neiman Marcus sent employess to check things out, but never followed through or explained why they weren't taking them back.
Their return policy is:
"If for any reason you are not satisfied, we will gladly accept your timely return of unworn, unwashed, or defective merchandise. Returned merchandise should include the vendor packaging and tags and be in the same condition as when it was received. Used merchandise cannot be returned unless defective. A pickup and/or restock fee may apply."
Before her accident, Patricia spent $100,000 per year at Neiman Marcus, and while her husband was spending on her account, he shelled out hundreds of thousands of dollars more, says Patricia's lawyer.
She closed her account during divorce proceedings in 2010, still unaware of her husband's alleged infidelity. That detail came up during divorce proceeding months later.
Patricia's attorney thinks Neiman Marcus is at fault here, as the personal shopper still works at the store and wasn't disciplined.
"The real villain in this case is Neiman Marcus," he said. "After learning of this affair decided they weren't going to do anything about it."

It's National Doughnut Day, So Get Your (Possibly) Free Doughnuts

It's the first Friday in June, which all good Americans know means it's National Doughnut Day. So it's time to score some free grub, though possibly with a catch or two.
For instance, Dunkin Donuts is offering free donuts but only if you purchase any sort of beverage at the store.
Meanwhile, Krispy Kreme says no purchase is necessary to get a free doughnut of "any variety," but some people have been complaining on the company's Facebook page that their local KKs are being very specific about what "any variety" means.
Tim Hortons is offering a free doughnut "with any purchase," but you're supposed to "like" the chain's Facebook page in order to get the coupon.
And of course, all of these promos include the caveats of "while supplies last" and "at participating locations," which means you may walk into your local store and found that they just don't want to give out any more free stuff — or that they don't honor National Doughnut Day.
Please share your National Doughnut Day success and/or horror stories in the comments.

Spurs' run of perfection in playoffs ends in 102-82 loss to Thunder

OKLAHOMA CITY — Stop the undefeated chatter. Put an end to the "Will they do it?" talk.

The San Antonio Spurs tripped over too many story lines to count in a 102-82 loss Thursday to the Oklahoma City Thunder at Chesapeake Energy Arena.

The Spurs will not, it turns out, run the table in the playoffs after losing Game 3 of the Western Conference finals. Nor would they win a 21st consecutive game dating to the regular season.

In fact, they ran into something for the first time this postseason — a tough series.

The Thunder pulled to within 2-1 after finally deciding to play some defense and, sure, returning to its push-the-pace cadence that defined the team so often this season.

Kevin Durant had 22 points and Thabo Sefolosha scored a surprising 19 as the Thunder finally resembled the team that needed only nine games to get to the conference finals.

The Spurs won the first two games against Oklahoma City by averaging 110.5 points but their offense took a sharp U-turn in Game 3, oozing mediocrity for 48 minutes and stalling out with their second-lowest point total this season.

"Defensively, that's as well as you can play against the best team in basketball," Thunder Coach Scott Brooks said.

Credit Sefolosha with disrupting Spurs guard Tony Parker, who punctured the Thunder for 52 points in the first two games on 61% shooting, impressive accuracy usually reserved for a post presence such as Dwight Howard.

Sefolosha, a 6-foot-7 shooting guard who defended Kobe Bryant in the West semifinals, was switched to the 6-2 Parker for Game 3 and held him to 16 points on still-solid 50% shooting in front of the typically earsplitting Thunder crowd.

"We have to play a lot better if we want to win here," Parker said.

The Spurs' problems ran pretty deep. Tim Duncan had only 11 points on five-for-15 shooting. Manu Ginobili was surprisingly quiet, scoring eight points on one-for-five shooting. Starting center Boris Diaw had one point.

Parker, Duncan and Diaw sat out the fourth quarter, the Thunder leading by as many as 27.

"They beat us good," Spurs Coach Gregg Popovich said. "I thought they played fantastic basketball in every way."

Before Thursday, San Antonio hadn't lost since a 98-84 decision April 11 against the Lakers.

They were thumped Thursday in fastbreak points, the Thunder easily taking the category, 18-7. The Thunder also had 14 steals, Sefolosha accruing six.

San Antonio had only two steals as a team and committed an atypical 21 turnovers.

Oklahoma City needed to win to keep alive hopes for its first trip to the NBA Finals since 1996, when the franchise was in Seattle. No team has ever come back from a 3-0 deficit to win an NBA series.

"We knew we're not going to lay down and roll over just because we were down 0-2," Durant said.

Manu Ginobili's play makes Spurs that much tougher

The veteran guard made nine of 14 shots and three of five three-pointers on the way to scoring a postseason-high 26 points for San Antonio on Sunday at the AT&T Center during the Spurs' 101-98 victory.

It was just what his team needed to sustain its unbeaten record in the postseason. San Antonio has won all nine playoff games and owns a 19-game winning streak going back to a victory over the Memphis Grizzlies on April 12.

"We really don't care," Ginobili said Monday. "We are close, seven [victories] away from accomplishing something way bigger than a streak."

That, of course, would be an NBA championship.

Ginobili had helped the Spurs engineer four-game sweeps of the Utah Jazz and the Clippers with his usual heady play, but there was something missing. Namely, his ability to put the ball in the basket.

He made 30 of 75 (40%) shots and was particularly brutal from beyond the three-point arc, making only nine of 35 (25.7%) attempts.

What was the difference in his shooting against the Thunder?

"I took the same ones," Ginobili said. "Sometimes they fall, sometimes they don't."

They started falling late in the first quarter Sunday. Ginobili made a fadeaway jumper, then split defenders James Hardenand Nick Collison before finishing with a layup over Derek Fisher.

The real crowd pleaser came next. Ginobili made a three-pointer from the corner on the final play of the quarter, falling down near the feet of Texas Gov. Rick Perry.

Perry pulled Ginobili to his feet as fans roared, though the player had no idea who had helped him.

"I didn't know it was the governor," Ginobili said.

Ginobili played the final 6 1/2 minutes of the fourth quarter as if spurred by a gubernatorial decree.

He grabbed a rebound and went in for a driving layup that gave San Antonio a 77-74 lead. Then came a flurry of four free throws that extended the Spurs' advantage to six points, followed by a layup in which Ginobili was fouled by Thabo Sefolosha.

Ginobili's ensuing free throw gave San Antonio a 10-point cushion with only 1:57 remaining, ensuring that it would remain perfect in the postseason.

His final fourth-quarter tally: 11 points on three-for-three shooting from the field and five-for-five shooting from the free-throw line to go with two rebounds and two assists.

"He's been doing that his whole career for us," Spurs guard Tony Parker said.

Ginobili hadn't been doing it as much during the regular season, a broken bone in his hand and astrained muscle in his side limiting him to 34 games. He missed all three of the Spurs' meetings with the Thunder before Sunday.

But he qualified as a pain to Oklahoma City in Game 1.

"It's what we expect," Spurs forward Stephen Jackson said. "He's had a couple of bad games, he hasn't been himself being injured a lot this season, but we expect him to play like that because we know he can burst out any game."

THUNDER TO 'LIL WAYNE Dude, You Needed a Ticket!

'Lil Wayne is a 'Lil wrong when he says he was denied entry into tonight's playoff game between the Oklahoma City Thunder and the San Antonio Spurs -- fact is, he just didn't have a ticket.

The rapper just tweeted, "Going to go to the Thunder game tonight but was denied by the team to be in their arena. Wow."

But a rep for the OKC Thunder tells TMZ ... "We did not deny him," adding, "His representatives contacted us about court side tickets and we told them we are completely sold out."

The rep says the team has no beef with the 'Lil one.

We're happy to help him find a strip club with a big screen.

How Important Are Fathers?: Something to Think About for Father's Day

In recent years, more women are deciding to have and raise  children on their own. This is accomplished either through artificial insemination or by searching for a man to have sex with for the sole purpose of becoming pregnant. This has led to debate about the importance of men in the rearing of children. Some (and I am among them) fear that fathers are being reduced to the role of sperm donor and disregarded as an important factor in parenting.
Fatherhood research: "Survey says...!"
An in-depth study by Dr. Anil Jain, of the Canadian Psychological Association, points to a range of benefits for children who have active fathers in their lives, such as greater ambition, more respect for the opposite sex, a stronger sexual identity, higher self-esteem, and fewer behavioural problems. Dr. Jain even goes further, stating that these benefits have to do with the specific role of father more than with simply having a second person parenting. (Dr. Jain intends to publish his findings in a paper later this year.)
This by no means undermines the role of a mother in a child’s life. This also does not mean that a single woman, or a lesbian couple, cannot raise a child. What is important to remember, though, is that the role of a father is also essential in the raising of a child, and that, if at all possible, a father should be part of the equation when it comes to a child’s upbringing.

Zombie Apocalypse: more bizarre and gruesome incidents reported today

It started this weekend when the disturbing Miami incident of a naked man eating another man’s face hit the news and was dubbed “zombie apocalypse.” Today more very gory and bizarre incidents have surfaced across the nation. These tales have many wondering what’s going on. Is it the bath salts being used like a drug causing psychotic behavior as some speculate?
The first incident to make news occurred this weekend in Miami where a naked man, Rudy Eugene, climbed on top of a 65 year-old homeless man and ate his face, according to WebProNews.  Police were beckoned by a passerby and they told Eugene to back away from the victim. Eugene looked up with pieces of human flesh hanging from his mouth and growled at the police. He then went back to eating the victim’s face.
The police shot Eugene, but he continued chewing on the man’s flesh. They were left with no options and the attacker was fatally shot to get him away from the victim. The victim, Roland Poppo, had 80% of his face eaten away and was unrecognizable as a man. He remains in the hospital in critical condition today. Pictures were released showing the victim and the crime scene aftermath.

McArthur High School HazMat Situation: Students, Teachers Decontaminated After Breaking Out In Rash

Twelve students and 2 teachers at McArthur High School in Hollywood are being treated in a hospital decontamination area after breaking out in mysterious rashes -- a scare that saw a school building evacuated and a HazMat team arrive to investigate.
“Their arms and abdomens are covered in rashes,” Hollywood Fire-Rescue Division Chief Mark Steele told the Miami Herald. “It happened pretty quickly, so we believe that this is something that’s very acute.”
The itch began when a class of 21 students was walking from one classroom to another and almost all of them starting developing itchy rashes and hives inside a reading room, reports CBS Miami.
The Florida Public Health and Medical Department arrived at the school alongside fire departments. Those affected showered in an area set up outside the school before being transported in a plastic-lined school bus to Memorial Regional Hospital, reports the Miami Herald, where they walked through two inflatable halls by gender, showered again, and placed their clothing in orange bags.
Nadine Drew, spokeswoman for Broward County Schools, told HuffPost Miami that the last she spoke with the hospital, "everyone was considered stable" and that they had determined that this was not an infectious condition. Other than the itching rash, the group did not have any other symptoms.
What caused the rash is still a mystery, Drew said, as HazMat did not find anything suspicious in the school and gave it the all clear. Students who shared a building, but not the reading room, with the affected students were confined in the school gym and the rest of the day continued as usual.
As an extra precaution, the school has hired a team to conduct a thorough cleaning of the entire school this evening, especially the classrooms where the rashes occurred.
